The educational community of the Complexo Educativo de Nova Sintra (CENS) organized a series of activities in all the schools in the cluster to alert society about the need to change some environmental habits.
These activities, as explained by Milena Gomes, Deputy Director for Social Inclusion Affairs at CENS, were organized in partnership with the environmental association Biflores, with the aim of celebrating World Environment Day, celebrated this Monday, June 5th.
According to the same source, different activities were organised, including open conversations with students from the Group's schools, but also a cleaning campaign in Nova Sintra, with the aim of drawing society's attention to the need for behavior change, with a focus on preservation of the environment.
On behalf of Biflores, coach Carlos Bango stressed that the association was very interested in joining the activities, as it is an opportunity to "awaken" in students and the new generation the "bug" to take care of the environment.
However, he reinforced that it is important to mark the dates, but it is also evident the need to continue the work carried out in commemoration of the dates, exemplifying that what they cleaned today is what was released before, hence it is important to collect and cultivate the habit of not throwing rubbish on the floor.
For her part, Diva Burgo, a biologist from this environmental association, highlighted the fact that the island does not have a sanitary landfill, which has been harming the environment every day, as the garbage that is placed in the dump is burned, but there are also other areas in that the residents put their garbage directly into the streams without any cleanliness.
In this sense, he argued that it is necessary for technicians and people with more knowledge to do a hard job with the communities of Brave, but also to invest in the recycling of waste, especially plastic, which is not biodegradable and has several negative consequences for the environment. .
The person responsible for visits to the various schools in the group, as announced by the CENS spokesperson, Vani Furtado, explained that his mission was to present the endemic species and banners on sustainable grazing to the youngest, in order to raise their awareness. them and show them the positive ways to contribute to the preservation of the environment.
This environmentalist said he believes that the message will certainly be passed on to parents and other people, especially on the issue of free grazing, with the long-term opportunity to reach a large number of cattle breeders and work them towards the practice of grazing sustainable, taking into account that there are several forage resources on Brava that allow people to embark on a sustainable practice.
