The Interpretative Center of Nova Sintra thus becomes the meeting point for those visiting Brava for the first time, where it is possible to have their first contact and notion of what can be found on the island.
According to Minister Carlos Santos, who was accompanied by the Portuguese Ambassador to Cape Verde, Paulo Lourenço, this interpretive centre, together with other ongoing and future projects, will enhance Brava Island as a nature tourist destination.
“We are talking about the urban requalification of the Furna area that we want to complete the requalification of the seafront. We are talking about the completion of the requalification of Lomba Tantum and another important project which is the creation of the tourist village of Fajã. As you know, it is a bay with a very rich history, which has great potential to develop there, a kind of open-air resort”, he indicated.
Carlos Santos pointed out that Brava has great tourist potential, which is why he considers it necessary to prepare it and provide it with other props to allow the tourist who goes to the island of flowers to feel welcome and be able to return.
Therefore, in addition to requalification at a spatial level, work will be carried out on the human resources component, preparing people to also take advantage of tourism.
“We are talking about the training of tour operators, to be able to extract this benefit, to develop their businesses, within the scope of the POT program, which is the largest program that we have in terms of tourism. I believe that Brava has these sui generis conditions and unique conditions to develop as a destination” he maintained in statements to the press.
In addition to the inauguration of the Interpretive Centre, as part of the minister's visit to the island of Brava, the Raízes+ Project was launched, which will be developed in cooperation with a Portuguese NGO to continue the process of preparing Brava as a tourist destination. of nature.
With regard to transport, which, moreover, is one of the problems experienced by the people of Brava for several years and which may rule the development of tourism on Brava, Carlos Santos said that the problem will soon be solved, as, in fact, already was announced by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.
The Nova Sintra Interpretive Center was funded by the Ministry of Tourism, through the Tourism Fund, by the Municipality of Brava and by the Camões Institute of Portugal, via the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola (ADPM).
