Brave artist Arlindo Rodrigues released, on the 15th, on digital platforms, his first single entitled “Es agu ki lebabu”, a morna inspired by the “socio-economic situation of Cape Verde.

In an interview with Inforpress, this son of Brava said that this morna was inspired by the socioeconomic situation in Cape Verde, especially on Brava Island.

“It speaks of the desire of Cape Verdeans to emigrate and return one day to plant in their beloved land what they earned abroad, which often does not happen”, explained the artist.

According to him, he had a few months working on this project, stressing that he had no major constraints and that he had moral support and more.

Asked about the reason for choosing the morna genre, the artist said that this genre of traditional Cape Verdean music has always “involved” him since he was a child, noting that he grew up listening to traditional music, especially morna.

“I grew up listening to music by Bana, Ildo Lobo e os Tubarões, Tito Paris, Cesária Évora, Armando de Pina and many other great musicians from the land who have always brightened us”.

As he highlighted, the morna has always enchanted him and touched his soul, although, he clarified, he likes all traditional Cape Verdean musical genres.

But, regarding the reaction of the public, even if it is still in the beginning, he informed that he has received several messages from well-known people and beyond, with “compliments and messages of encouragement” to continue.

Arlindo Rodrigues made it known that his career in music began with the local voice competition on the island of Brava, and that he then went to live in the city of Praia, where he started singing in restaurants, places that opened the door for him to be recognized by the public and win friends from the music world and beyond.

With this route, in February, he was invited by the group “Os Tubarões” to be a vocalist, remembering that it was a “difficult” decision to make but that he ended up embracing and assuming with “a lot of responsibility”.

Regarding his perspectives, he stressed that he will first analyze the acceptance of the first single and then intend to follow the same line of traditional music, with mornas, coladeiras, and perhaps, funaná and other genres.

This work had the participation of several musicians residing in the city of Praia, where in the production, arrangements and solo guitar there was the contribution of Ivan Medina, on bass Vando Pereira, Totinho on Sax, piano Ulisses Portuguese, percussion Bruno Lima, on drums Jorge Pimpa, and post-production and audio at Zunga Pinheiro studio.
