The municipal deputies of the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV) accuse the elements of the municipal bench of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) of political collusion in the inspection issue.

Speaking to Inforpress, the PAICV bench (opposition) accused the leader of the MpD bench (situation) of not “fulfilling” her obligations, as supervisors of the municipality, including not scheduling the mandatory and ordinary meetings until it's given.

According to João Coelho, deputy on the PAICV bench, during this year, there has still been no call for the Municipal Assembly to meet, taking into account that it is “mandatory” that there be at least three meetings per year.

“If there are no essential documents to convene the sessions, the board of the assembly must take care and demand such documents”, stressed the deputies, justifying that Law 134/IV/95 – municipal statute of 10/01/1995, which the wording given by Law 147/IV/95 (amendment of the statute of municipalities), articles 69º, 70º and 75º determine that “the president is exclusively competent” to call ordinary meetings and that by law imposes a minimum of three sessions per year, being in February, April and November each year.

However, the same source pointed out that this situation has been commonplace, recalling that in June 2019 the PAICV bench formally delivered a criminal complaint against elements of the municipal bench of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), whose process was archived, but warns not to let this situation happen again.

PAICV municipal deputies consider that the people in question are “playing with the people’s money”, since both denounced deputies “receive” monthly salaries to work on behalf of the body and the municipality, having responsibilities in the course of their duties .

Faced with this “ordinary” situation, the PAICV bench threatens to file a complaint again with the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Comarca da Brava and the Ministry that oversees the municipal councils.
