The transfer of water management in the towns of Ferreiros, Lomba and Palhal to the Intermunicipal Water Company (Águabrava) was the subject discussed at a meeting that brought together, on Brava Island, authorities linked to the sector.
The mayor of Brava, the delegate Empresa Intermunicipal de Águas (Águabrava) and the delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment marked, with this first working meeting, the beginning of a process that “brings justice and standardization” in access and distribution of water to the entire population of Brava.
The information was provided by the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, who recalled that, in 2017, after a visit to Brava by the prime minister and the minister of Agriculture, in a delegation that also included the managing director of Águabrava, arrived An understanding was reached that an agreement should be reached involving everyone and proceed with the transition.
For Francisco Tavares, the Ministry of Agriculture itself “is not an entity whose main competence is the management of water distribution, mainly for the populations”, adding that this is what is happening for the villages of Lomba, Palhal and Ferreiros, with the management of the Odju d´Agu borehole,
"Over the years we have verified that there are problems, many of them arising from the fact that the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture does not have and could not have technicians, 'know-how' and human resources for this type of work", highlighted the mayor.
He also stressed that the delegation has provided "a great service", to the point that today there are 134 water meters in these locations.
After the first meeting to start handing over the dossiers, Francisco Tavares said he hoped that within a month the distribution of water in these areas would also be carried out by the company Águabrava.
Thus, he advanced that conditions will be created for "less problems, better supply service and satisfaction of the population" which will also "free up" the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture for other activities such as agriculture and livestock, which are its main activity.
