Residents, users and owners of commercial establishments on Rua Direita, in the city of Nova Sintra, today requested the intervention of the competent authorities for its requalification, equating it to other streets in the city.
Speaking to the press, João Martins, owner of a barbershop on this street, demonstrated his “dissatisfaction” with the state of the street, stressing that he does not understand why all the other streets in the Historic Center of Nova Sintra were paved and this one was not.
Also because, he highlighted, this “is one of the busiest streets in the city”, adding that this situation should be rethought, since it is also part of the Historic Center.
Likewise, Alcides Gibau, a driver by profession, indicated some constraints that the state of the sidewalk causes passersby, since it has not been contemplated with the requalification works-
The street, with an uneven floor, is frequented daily, as it is home to a large number of commercial establishments.
In this sense, it appeals to the good sense of the Government and local authorities to reverse this situation and rethink a project to include these rehabilitation works on Rua Direita.
In terms of establishments, Rute Pires, who is responsible for one of the several establishments on the street, says she regrets this situation, which has caused several embarrassments, especially at this time when the street has not yet been cleaned.
He considered it a danger for people who run the risk of putting their foot in the wrong place and twisting in the existing holes, not to mention the level of unevenness of the old cobblestone that is still on the street.
Eduardo Rosa, who has lived on this street for 28 years, says he hopes that this street will also be reclassified due to the importance it has in the city’s economy, as this street contains several commercial establishments, which makes it one of the busiest in the city. .
In this sense, he argued that it would be fair to reclassify this road, thus allowing better circulation, but also to guarantee the safety of people and vehicles.
In addition, he recalled that this street ends in the Cutelo area, where all the activities of the June festivities in Brava culminate, since it is in this area that the “mast” is placed and, therefore, he says he is waiting for an intervention by the Government and the Brava City Council, to restore dignity to this street, as well as others in the Historic Center.
Inforpress tried to contact the mayor, but he is not on Brava and a reaction was not possible until this moment.
The requalification works of the Historic Center of Nova Sintra, which started at the end of September 2020, initially budgeted at more than 27 million escudos and financed under the Rehabilitation, Requalification and Accessibility Program (PRRA), were inaugurated in September 2022 and aimed to reclassify the streets of the city of Nova Sintra.
