Brava City Council inaugurated this Friday the rehabilitation works of a multi-purpose sports facility in the town of Mato, with the infrastructure to serve, from now on, not only the area, but all those interested in the surroundings.

According to the mayor, Francisco Tavares, this is a work that demonstrates that “when you want it, you can do it”.

However, the mayor stressed that this inauguration makes a difference due to a partnership with the Association of Friends of Santana de Mato, which reduced the cost of the work by about one sixth of the entire investment, which is around six thousand contos.

He also referred that the objective of his team is "to do more and better" for the young people of Brave, not caring if they are from Cachaço, Mato, Vila, Furna or wherever, since the "obligation" is to do for the braveenses, wherever they are.

Tavares took the opportunity to announce that the inauguration of the rehabilitation works on the Nossa Senhora do Monte multipurpose facility is scheduled for the beginning of next year, but he stressed that the one in Furna could be even before Christmas.

“We make these investments because the youth of the island deserve to have decent spaces like those they see on other islands”, said the mayor, asking the youth and the population to do their part, namely preservation, to promote the organization of sports activities, to conveniently enjoy the space.

The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who was present at the inauguration, considered this multipurpose facility "as good as" others on other islands and took the opportunity to ask young people to make the "maximum advantage" of the space, but with the sense of " preservation of heritage”.

According to the head of state, good things are often done in Cape Verde, but people do not take care of them, which ends up leading to degradation.

But, he continued, as it is a country with few resources, one must have a “affection” with the heritage.

As President of the Republic, he stressed that it is always a pleasure to inaugurate a major project, such as an international airport, a large secondary school, a football stadium, a port, but he underlined that it gives him even greater satisfaction, inaugurating works on islands that need more , as in Brava, São Nicolau or Maio.

In this light, he added that “it is a sign that progress. It may be delayed, but it arrives in all the islands of the country”.

For its part, the Associação dos Amigos de Santana de Mato, on behalf of the local population, thanked the municipality for the initiative, pledging to preserve the space, because, “it is not every day that you have the opportunity to have a work of this kind. ”, he emphasized.

“It's a big job, it had its costs and here, publicly, I ask all users to take care of the space with affection, especially for us young people where this space, in addition to favoring us in the practice of physical exercises, will free us of various social ills”, clarified Kimany Gonçalves, spokesperson for the association.

In addition to the multipurpose facility, a small square outside was also inaugurated.

To commemorate the inauguration, futsal tournaments were held, physical exercises with the Mexi Mexe group and a presentation of a play by the group “Os Trapalhões”.
