Samuel Santiago, from Brave, resident in the United States of America, “fulfilled” his dream of contributing to the development of Cape Verdean music at the age of 46, with the release of his single.
In an interview with Inforpress, Samuel Santiago said that music has been part of his life since he was a child and recalled that he was still a child, when he learned the first notes on the piano and other instruments and how to sing.
From there, he pointed out that he started to be called for rehearsals with the choral groups of the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, in Brava, where he supported in the songs and played the organ.
Upon completing the former Preparatory Cycle, aged 12, Samuel Santiago went to Cidade da Praia to continue his studies at Liceu Domingos Ramos and music accompanied him on this journey.
With his departure to the United States, he added that he began to “experiment” with traditional music from Cape Verde and played some concerts at different points, accompanying other musicians.
According to the same source, in 2012 he held his first musical event with artists such as Gardénia Benrós, Djuta Barros, Benvindo Cruz, Hélder Duarte, among others, accompanied by John Miranda's Band.
As he emphasized, he had already been trying to record for some years, but only now has he managed to “fulfill his childhood dream” with his single produced by Kim Alves, a job he started working on in April of this year.
The theme is “Note Di Treba”, explained the artist, it was composed in 1956 by Quim Costa and José da Graça.
Explaining the name of the song and its CD, he justified that the author “wanted to evoke the disgust of someone who is living without the sweet light of the beloved’s gaze and compares it to a dark night, a dark night, without light”.
Last Sunday, he made his presentation in New Bedford, and he is working so that the next presentation will be made in Florida, with the intention of also reaching the nearest cities, such as Boston, Pawtucket and Brockton.
About the online availability, the artist said that it is not yet available.
