Brava: Sankofa Editora presents a project to attract young people to the field of literature

Sankofa Editora is on Ilha Brava publicizing a literary 'startup' project, LiteratUp, developed by the publisher to instigate the attraction for Cape Verdean literature, especially among young people.

This information was provided to Inforpress by Helder Tavares, a member of the publisher, explaining that initially, the idea is to hold competitions in high schools among students and Brava was chosen to kick off, taking into account that it is the birthplace of one of the Cape Verde's greatest writers.

According to the same source, registration is now open for young people from Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares (ESET), where they have the opportunity to compete with each other, with three different literary styles, namely chronicles, short stories and poems.

The winner, as he underlined, in addition to the prize, has the possibility to compete in the second phase of the project, which will be carried out inter-lyceums.

To start the project on Brava, he highlighted that last February, meetings with young people from ESET began to establish the first contacts, and understand what relationship they have in terms of literature.

Registrations were then opened, which began on the 23rd of March and ended on the 20th of April, where they already have five writings, a number of participants that he is convinced will increase.

However, Hélder Tavares stressed that they are facing some difficulties with the dissemination process, taking into account that the whole process is and will take place on digital platforms and on the island, in addition to the city hall and ESET's Facebook, there are no other options for publicize the project and the link for registration.

With this project, this young man who is also from Brave, says that he intends to bring some dynamics to the island in terms of culture and literature, for the young layer, which he believes can also serve as an instrument to fight against violence, criminality youth and other social ills that have been worrying society.

After Brava Island, the project will be presented to students on the island of Fogo and then to the other islands, bearing in mind that the intention is to involve all high schools in the country, so that in the second phase, the winner of the first stage can represent the your high school or your island in inter-high school competitions.

And it is in this sense that this young man asks the students to participate, believing that everyone has the potential to do so.
