The socio-economic diagnosis of Lomba Tantum, presented on Tuesday, recommends strengthening the local authority and the Government in promoting integrated local development, underlining the need to enhance fishing and bring more income to the area.

According to the document, it is necessary to think of solutions to respond to the social demands of this community, which "requires a strategic vision of the whole and coordinated policies and actions, in order to create a favorable environment for integrated and participatory local development, which contributes to to improve the quality of life of residents.

And for this, the construction of a multipurpose center is recommended, with a kindergarten, spaces for training and community entertainment and green spaces, in addition to information and education programs for citizenship and development, which integrate environmental, health issues sexual and reproductive health, hygiene and public health, nutritional education and gender equality and equity.

The document also suggests awareness-raising programs to increase the sense of belonging, engagement and social participation, as well as training and capacity building programs in associativism and associative leadership and encouraging the population to adhere to social security or mutualist social security structures informal sector workers.

Olívia Mendes, coordinator of the Social and Solidarity Economy, Cooperation and Projects office of the NGO Citi Habitat, speaking to Inforpress, said that in relation to the community it is necessary that it sees itself as an actor and promoter of its own development.

To reach this level, the coordinator revealed that it is necessary for the community to organize itself, because, she explained, no disorganized community, even if it has available resources, cannot develop.

Quoting Paulo Feire, with his phrase “no one develops anyone, each one develops their own mind”, he explained that it is necessary to bet on self-organization and self-promotion.

Another issue that Olívia Mendes considered “very relevant” has to do with education, for changing behavior and attitude, defending investments in the education sector, arguing that if there is no investment in this area, people will not appropriate what is put available.

In this regard, the official recommended reinforcing people's training, in terms of professional and vocational training for young people and women heads of families, with a micro-credit and financial education aspect, to support initiatives that generate income and self-employment.

The Chamber and the Government, he reinforced, must create conditions, also, for the development of fishing, considered as the engine of development of the community, that value this area, that create conditions in the community so that in this area there is a way to develop and take more income and wealth for this village.
