Kevin Santiago, a computer science student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is about to take part in an educational milestone in Cape Verde. Born to Brava parents, Kevin will be part of a team of six MIT instructors who will lead the MIT Global Teaching Lab program, an innovative initiative of TechPark CV.

From January 6 to 31, 2025, Kevin and the MIT team will be at TechPark CV in Praia, contributing to the “Problem Solving with App Inventor” course, designed to empower young Cape Verdeans between the ages of 16 and 24. The program, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), is part of the second phase of the Cape Verde Technology Park Project, which seeks to transform the country into a hub for digital innovation in West Africa.

For Kevin, this is a unique opportunity to give back to his parents’ home country by applying the knowledge he gained at MIT in collaboration with the other instructors on the team. The young student will participate in mentoring the participants, helping them develop technical and critical thinking skills.

The course will culminate with a “Demo Day,” where students will showcase mobile applications created during the training and receive a certificate of global recognition from MIT.

This collaboration reinforces Cape Verde’s role as a reference in technological training in West Africa, promoting inclusive and sustainable learning.
