The Biflores Association, the Municipality of Brava, the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) and 32 breeders from Brava are working towards the implementation of a future sustainable grazing project for the island.

This information was provided to Inforpress by Vani Furtado, Biflores technician, explaining that they had been meeting since last Tuesday, to analyze the grazing situation and the conservation of the environment, fauna and flora, to together elaborate a grazing plan with sustainability.

This meeting, as shown, is to give continuity to the intervention of the pioneering project of sustainable grazing by plants and means of subsistence in Brava, funded by the Darwin Initiative in partnership with Fauna and Flora Internacional, with regard to sustainable grazing within livestock sector and conservation of the biodiversity of endemic fauna and flora.

During these three days, they mapped the current situation of pastoralism, as well as the five-year vision and shared responsibilities for action.

Likewise, he informed that they had drawn up a sustainable grazing management action plan that will be presented in all communities where grazing is practiced, still in the months of April and May 2023.

“After the consultation process, Biflores and the partner institutions involved in this project will formalize this plan and work it within the Municipal Code and elaborate sustainable grazing actions and biodiversity conservation”, listed the same source.

For now, he informed that Biflores and MAA presented potential technical solutions to work on this project and its implementation, namely forage production, water mobilization, pasture management, forage storage, agro-ecological forage fields, among others actions that will support its implementation and the sustainability of the project.
