Brava: Merchants ask for a transport solution that guarantees the sustainability of their business

The lack of freight transport for merchants is affecting big businesses and the smaller ones are also affected by this situation and merchants are asking for a solution that guarantees sustainability.

Some economic investors and traders complained today about the constraints caused by the lack of products in establishments, even with purchases made in Praia City and call for an effective solution in the issue of transport to the island, not only for passengers but also for the transport of cargo and thus allow the sustainability of the business.

Élcio Rocha, managing partner of one of the largest commercial establishments on the island, spoke on behalf of the traders, stressing that this is a situation that has been going on for some time and that needs better attention in order to allow some income and the sustainability of the business, as well as supplying the market so that the population can have access to the products.

According to the same source, the question of transport has a strong impact, especially in the area of commerce, thus making it difficult to supply and replenish stock, which has caused some rupture and lack of some products on the island.

The managing partner of a local mini-market also stressed that the lack of products in stores also affects other sectors such as hotels and restaurants, noting that in the case of the mini-market he runs, he normally brings frozen products to supply the restaurants, but that in the latter dias has faced some difficulties because the mini-market was not able to supply enough to remove the necessary stock for this area.

In this issue of out-of-stocks, not even traders with small businesses escape, as is the case of Carlota Teixeira, who says she has a small business in the town of Furna and has faced several difficulties in maintaining her business in terms of supplying it. .

According to the trader, she has been shopping in Cidade da Praia for more than three weeks, but until then she has not been able to bring her purchases to the island and there is no way to store them in Cidade da Praia, which has caused some constraints with her suppliers who they are asking to take the loads.

In addition to shopping in the capital, in an attempt to maintain his business and supply his customers, he said that he has been shopping in stores in Nova Sintra, for a higher price to try to honor the commitments made with customers in Furna.

Teixeira revealed that the situation is already becoming "unsustainable" and therefore it is not possible to continue the business because there are more losses than gains, recalling that he pays taxes and all commitments as well as investors in any of the other municipalities with better conditions.

Other traders are also experiencing the same situation, but some said that it is not worth “crying” any more in the media because the Brava issue has been going on for a long time and every day continues to get worse.

On this issue, this Tuesday the press had already questioned the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, in advance about what solutions for the economic sectors, taking into account that it is a recurring complaint, and the head of the Government advanced that it has already been is taking steps to improve the situation, informing that the Government is currently working with the CVInterilhas concessionaire to improve the level and quality of service provision within the concession contract.

And, to improve this sector, he recognized that it must have concrete offers, regularly, security to make economic activity become a fact on Brava, reinforcing that “the island needs tourism, economy and connectivity are fundamental and important for that”.

He also highlighted that there are projects that are in the pipeline, namely the private project of the Brava Resort & Conference Center that will provide a lot of support in this process of greater integration and economic and social inclusion on the island.
