The implementation works of the desalination station in the town of Furna will be visible from the month of March, announced today the mayor of Brava.

Speaking to Inforpress, Francisco Tavares explained that the section of road to the Forte area where the station will be installed has already been completed, and that some protection walls are now under construction, but that the works of the desalination plant itself will already be visible in the next March.

According to the same source, representatives of the three companies that formed a consortium that won the contract for the work on the desalination plant have already been to Brava, accompanied by Águabrava officials and their technicians and the Brava council for a field visit and soon it was signed the contract with the company and from the 1st of February the period for the execution of the work, which is 14 months, began to count.

As the mayor explained, this work will take all this time because it has several components, among them the need to drill holes, prepare the land for two stations with solar panels, one at Fort Furna and another in Santa Bárbara, the construction of three reservoirs, 1 of 500 cubic meters (m3) and 2 of 100 m3 each.

In addition, he said that it is necessary to assemble the desalination plant itself and also the entire pumping and water supply system from Forte to the Avenida head reservoir in Nova Sintra.

Francisco Tavares recalled that this is a “structural and large” work, including a photovoltaic park to minimize energy costs and guarantee the production of water to supply the island.

This project is financed by the Luxembourg Cooperation in the amount of 3.5 million euros.
