The athlete, who started his career in athletics in 2019, has already participated in several events on the island, most of which achieved first place.

For José da Luz, participating and winning this competition is the beginning of preparation for his participation in the competition that will be held next August in the municipality of Mosteiros (Fogo), where he intends to represent Brava “with dignity”.

Asked about the difficulties encountered by athletes in this modality, both for preparation and support, this athlete stressed that at the moment the greatest difficulty they face is the inactivity of the Regional Athletics Association of Brava, which makes athletes at the mercy of luck.

Because, as he reinforced, the City Council of Brava has always supported them, but the lack of functioning of the association does not allow the athletes to organize themselves for training and to participate in the best way in the competitions, thus leading each one to train as they wish. and participate in the trials of your own free will.

In turn, Manuel Araújo, a member of the association Amigos Associados de Santana do Mato (Amasama), the association responsible for organizing the activities of this festival, lamented the poor participation of athletes in this event.

According to the same source, they had hoped that at least seven athletes would participate in this race, but they were not that lucky and the organization does not have the means to bring athletes from other islands, which would be an additional cost.

But, he expressed the wish that one day they would be able to bring at least athletes from Fogo, which for this member of the organization would enhance the race and who knows could encourage more athletes from Brave to participate.

As for the difficulties, he indicated, in addition to the lack of commitment and incentive on the part of young people to participate in this race, the lack of support, which according to him, in Brava any organizer of events and activities faces this difficulty, but with the little that they can and with the fund raised in activities carried out during the year it is always possible to continue what has always been done.

Regarding sporting activities, the final of the futsal tournament in Nova Sintra is scheduled today, which has been running since the 12th and which had the final scheduled for Monday night, the 24th.
