Speaking to Inforpress, Mário Soares highlighted that to celebrate the anniversary, which is celebrated today, November 12th, the municipality carried out several sporting activities, namely athletics, futsal and basketball, with the aim of boosting sport on the island.

“Since the date fell on a weekend, it was great to have young people together and active practicing sport on this day. Senior men's and women's athletics events were held, however we regret the poor participation of female athletes”, he highlighted.

According to the Sports councilor, the activity was attended by young people from various locations on the island.

The councilor informed that also as a way of promoting and boosting football schools, a futsal tournament was held between the three football academies in Brava, with 14-year-old teenagers.

“We brought all the teams to the Nossa Senhora do Monte sports center, with the aim of making an exchange between schools and also moving young people from their communities to another, which is always good, an extra motivation for everyone”, he highlighted.

Mário Soares also said that basketball games were held and that work is already being done on the creation of an association for the sport, in Nossa Senhora do Monte, with the aim of giving more dynamism to this type of sport.

The councilor considered the participation of young people in this sporting activity to be positive, however he called for more participation from the population in upcoming sporting activities.

Cape Verde Sports Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of November.
