Brava: Advent is a time of preparation and awakening in our lives – Friar Matias

Friar Matias defended today during the homily of the mass of the first Sunday of Advent, in Brava, that for Christians, this is the time of preparation and of awakening life that is often distracted.

According to the priest, speaking to Inforpress, this period that began today, in addition to preparing for Christmas, is also the beginning of the pastoral year.

Friar Matias pointed out that for lives that are distracted, many times they always need an alarm clock to make them wake up and they must wake up and always be prepared for the coming of Jesus.

“It is a coming, which is already present for us Christians. Well, Christ is always present in our midst, but there is the historic coming that we celebrate and the glorious coming that we always have to prepare for”, explained the religious.

He continued, Christians always have this hope of eternal life and salvation, because Christ assured them, but, it is necessary to prepare to welcome them, because, the reception, he recalled, depends on Christians.

Questioned about how to prepare to welcome and prepare to receive Jesus Christ in the world of adversity, Friar Matias reinforced that it is “above all” in the midst of adversity that one has to prove one's faith.

Comparing the life of a Christian as being a ship and that on this ship you have to sail, knowing that at the helm is Jesus Christ, “the great captain”, he quoted a popular proverb, emphasizing that “a calm sea never made good sailors”.

In other words, “you always have to sail against adversity”, but with confidence that whoever is at the helm is an “invincible captain” and, on the other hand, be careful because the enemy is always on the prowl.

“You have to have clear eyes to be able to fight. Fighting a disease is with stronger medicines, so to fight enemies is to be stronger, to be stronger than the enemy is just to be united with Christ who is our strength”, concluded the frei.
