The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, guaranteed that by March 2020, all houses in the town of Furna will have bathrooms, giving residents “greater and better” dignity.

The mayor made these statements on Monday, at the time of handing over three bathrooms and a house, in the town of Furna, thus completing a cycle of 20 interventions in this area.

According to the mayor, improving the quality of life of the people of Brave is one of the “strong bets” of his city council team, which began since the first term, in 2012, highlighting the Requalification, Rehabilitation and Accessibility Program (PRRA) came to “accelerate” what the camera had already “chosen as a priority”.

He added that, under the scope of the first contract with the PRRA, the city council managed to cover 66 families on the island, with interventions in the construction of bathrooms, and that in about 20 percent (%) there were new coverages and in security, in some cases.

He stressed that this is a municipal project that aims to "eradicate the need" for bathrooms on the island since 2012, indicating that the city council has already intervened in about 130 homes.

In the particular case of the locality of Furna, he explained that the need pointed to 30 interventions and they have already reached twenty and with the contract already signed for the second phase, they intend to contemplate the other 10, so that in the month of March they can have the locality with houses of bath in all rooms.

With these results and interventions, Francisco Tavares stressed that “perhaps”, with one more mandate, that is, in a five-year horizon, at this rate of intervention, they will be able to respond to the requests of all low-income families, who entered the chamber .

For the beneficiaries, these interventions are of “great relevance”, since the families covered do not have the conditions to build a “dignified” bathroom, nor carry out works in their homes.

Helena Martins, is the mother of three children and was one of the beneficiaries, with interventions in her home.

He told Inforpress that, with his salary, it would be impossible to have a decent home to raise his children, taking into account that at the end of the month, all his income, from 9,500 to nine thousand five hundred escudos, is channeled to expenses relatives.
Before, he recalled, he lived in a house consisting of a bedroom and a living room, a space that was used for the kitchen, bathroom and everything that was necessary.

Now with this house, he continued, “I have each thing in its space”, more privacy and dignity.
