Brava: Municipality launches campaign to build “decent” housing for a needy family

The mayor of Brave, Francisco Tavares, informed today that the city council, together with some emigrants, will launch, next Friday, 3rd, a campaign to support a needy family to build a house.

Speaking to Inforpress, the mayor said that the family consists of eight people and resides in the town of Furna.

The mayor stressed that “really” this family needs interventions in the housing and, therefore, had been included in the framework of the Requalification, Rehabilitation and Accessibility Program (PRRA), for the construction of a bathroom.

According to Francisco Tavares, it was found that “that alone was not enough”, which is why the city council team will implement new measures to support this family.

He explained that the council has already carried out a project, in which, in addition to the bathroom, it is necessary to build a bedroom, a kitchen and the rehabilitation of another part of the house to be transformed into bedrooms, stressing that "there is part of this family that sleeps relent”.
He announced that the chamber already has the partnership of a family, whose wife is from Brave and her husband is American, who offered to support with 200,000 escudos.

The municipality, he continued, had already collected 380 thousand escudos for the construction of a bathroom, informing that the campaign intends to mobilize funds to pay for all the works.

According to the mayor, the works are budgeted at around 11,000 dollars, the amount needed to do all the work, in order to give “a little dignity” to this family.

He also informed that he is a “junta mon” and there is already a group of young people led by a mason who, voluntarily, is working to build this house.

So far, he added that the foundations have already been laid to start the bathroom and with the family's funding they will build blocks, but he is said to be aware that there will still be a lack of other materials for building all the walls, finishes and the concrete.

And that is why, he explained, they are going to launch this campaign, in the hope that more partners will emerge and thus take this family out of the “danger and vulnerability situation” in which it finds itself, in terms of housing.
