The leader of Grupo Carnavalesco da Furna considers the participation of the only official group in the Carnival parade this year to be positive, an assessment guided by the audience's interaction during the presentation.
Speaking to the press, Edivaldo Lopes stressed that at the moment the feeling is of “duty fulfilled”, taking into account that after two years without Carnival parades, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the group created in 2020 managed to reorganize itself, circumvent and overcome the barriers and resume this year, offering the public the theme of Emigration and whaling, as a way of portraying a bit of the history of the people of Brave.
The person in charge believes that the group, both for the music and for the presentation, managed to get the message across to the public.
Meanwhile, he launched an appeal for other groups to organize themselves and officially participate in the 2024 Carnival, stressing that Carnival is joy and to have complete joy there needs to be much more interaction and participation, even if it is not for competition.
The official parade of the only group was scheduled for 16:00, but it only started after 17:00, with a tribute to two cultural activists, children of Brava, Tey and Nelson, who died last year, one due to illness and the other missing at sea.
Still, the parade, in addition to the delay for which it was marked, the group spent more than an hour dancing samba on Rua Padre Pio Gottin, which deserved some criticism from the public.
Being the only official group, it took home the 1st place prize, but also the litter, queen, king and all the other prizes awarded.
Before the official parade, there was a presentation by three entertainment groups, each with their own theme to raise awareness for the audience present, who also took prizes.
In an evaluation made by the public, Anita Andrade welcomed the resumption of the parades and the initiative of the official group, but defended that because it was a single group, “it could have more brightness and more animation”.
The spectator asks young people to move and that next year more zones and groups will participate. He also wants greater support and encouragement from the Brava City Council.
Likewise, Ana Gomes, a member of the Baianas group, which this year celebrated its 25th anniversary, regretted the group's absence from the official parade, pledging to fight to reorganize itself and participate next year, as usual.
But, in relation to the parade held today, he gave a “positive note”, stressing that the Furna carnival group managed to convey the message to the hundreds of people who went to Nova Sintra to have fun.
Francisco Tavares, mayor of Brava, made a positive assessment of the party, stressing that having Carnival is something that has to depend on the good will of the people.
The mayor took the opportunity to congratulate the Furna group who presented the theme “very well and with great creativity”, with emphasis on the tributes paid to the two cultural activists who always made their contribution to groups on the island, and who today are no longer together. more between us.
The mayor also highlighted the civic attitude shown by the population, calling for a greater incentive for people to create another group and in this path he launched a challenge so that each zone creates a wing and then joins it in a single group to play next year, committing itself to support the limit of the council's resources, but also in the search for partners, which this year had the support of the Intermunicipal Water Company, Águabrava, and the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
