The Eugénio Tavares square in Nova Sintra received today hundreds of children from different areas of Brava to participate in the activities alluding to the 1st of June promoted by the municipality in partnership with the ICCA.

Speaking to Inforpress, the councilor responsible for Social Affairs, Health and Gender, Ivone Cardoso, explained that the intention of the city council was to mark the event, taking the opportunity to remind society about the importance of providing a healthy childhood for children .

Because, as he highlighted, if an analysis is carried out, it is possible to see that parents have been giving children electronic means (mobile phones, tablets) thus leaving aside the other games that they can play and interacting in a different way with colleagues and friends.

Hence, he underlined that this moment of leisure and interaction between children from different locations helps in the development of children and will serve as a “click” for parents in order to try to rescue this part of “healthy childhood”.

Likewise, he underlined that this activity aimed to make the population aware of the need to protect and defend the rights of children, justifying that it is common knowledge that children's rights have been subject to various violations.

Of the activities provided, he highlighted bouncy castle, swings, games, dances, among others, reinforcing that even children from the different schools on the island prepared presentations to cheer up the public and ended up completing the day.

Faced with the participation and involvement of society and children, he gave a “positive assessment” of the event, noting that it was held in partnership with the delegation of the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA) in Brava, believing that the main messages were passed.

Finally, this responsible asks society to engage in the protection of children's rights every day, because as the popular poem says and recited by some children present "children are the future of tomorrow" and for that it is "everyone needs to engage in this process".

The ICCA delegation has programmed a series of activities that will be carried out in various parts of the island, such as lectures, open conversations, awareness raising actions on preventing and combating abuse and sexual exploitation against children and adolescents, child labor, among others.

For the 2nd of June, the ICCA holds a dawn in Nova Sintra similar to the one held today in Furna, with the aim of drawing attention and making civil society aware of the problem of sexual abuse and exploitation, leading people to reflect , but also an awareness of the fulfillment of children's rights.
