The community of Fajã d´Água meets this Saturday, the 18th, with the aim of “demanding” concrete answers and a position on the part of the Government and the responsible entities regarding the connecting road.

Speaking to the press, José Andrade, a resident and responsible for some investments in the area, explained that on the 21st of March it will be two months since the town is completely isolated, after a landslide that took part of the road with it.

According to the same source, the population is “apprehensive”, because, after these two months, the feeling is that “nothing is being done” by the Government and the Institute of Roads of Cabo Verde, reinforcing that on the part of these entities, the community has not had any feedback on what the solution is and when it is possible to have a carable road for the area.

“At the time they said that, within two months, we would have an improvised route, with the filling of the stream, while another alternative would be analyzed”, he stressed, stressing that work had begun on the rock for the construction of slopes, but two weeks ago that the works are at a standstill and nothing is known about the road.

“We have the impression that we are abandoned and nobody is worrying about us”, said the same source, noting that local entities have been doing what they can, but that the population knows that the responsibility for this road lies with the Government.

In this sense, the community decided to organize this meeting, inviting some Government entities based on the island, in order to send this direct message and set a deadline for the response and then the works.

Even because, as this resident evidenced, there are stagnant developments in this area, and in addition, the biggest concern is with the rainy season that is approaching, because, in case of flooding, the vicinal path will also be knocked down, causing more damage and confining the zone further to isolation.

Not being from the vicinal path, he alerted to other parts of the rock that are unstable and could fall at any moment.

In this sense, he defended that, for the time being, filling the stream would be a viable solution for some period of time, but continued to focus on studies for an alternative route, supporting the Palhal – Portete- Esparadinha route, fearing that the area would remain in the same situation or worse in the rainy season.
