Brava: Community of Lomba Tantum already has its socioeconomic diagnosis

The community of Lomba Tantum, in Brava, already has its socio-economic diagnosis, which will be presented to the people of Brava, next Tuesday, December 10th.

This diagnosis was carried out within the scope of the Platforms for Local Development program on Ilha Brava, in which the locality of Lomba Tantum was chosen as a target for interventions, enhancing its main resource, which is fishing.

This study was carried out by the NGO Citi Habitat and the diagnosis is part of the studies and work for the implementation of the Fishing Cooperative in that locality.

It should be noted that last July, the Cooperative of Shipowners, Fishermen and Fishmongers (CoopUnipesca) was created, which intends to work towards valuing products from the sea in this area.

This cooperative was created within the scope of training that this community received, on the organization and administration of cooperative societies, framed within the pilot project of the Local Development plan, linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will be implemented in this location.

The impact project, which will be implemented in the area, is Brava Fish, which at the time of its presentation, Paula Silva, territorial animator of the 20/30 Local Development Platform program, in statements to Inforpress, said that fishing is “the development engine of Brava Island”.

And the impact project in this area, he explained, is about “setting up a fishing cooperative”, which will contribute not only to the “economic empowerment” of the population, but also the “social empowerment”, working on social issues, such as Gender-Based Violence, sexual abuse, alcohol consumption, professional training, in order to “guarantee” more employability for young people, part where the Tourism Fund and other partners “enter”.

It should be noted that the platform is led by the municipal councils, but is made up of all actors in the municipality.

The socio-economic diagnosis of the community of Lomba Tantum will be presented on Tuesday, at 09:00, in the Main Hall of the city hall.
