The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, announced today the completion of the works on the access road to Forte da Furna, where the desalination unit will be installed, whose works will start in April.
Speaking to the press at the time of reception of the work, the mayor demonstrated his satisfaction and the meaning that it has for the entire society of Brave, stressing that today, the identification of the points of the first works was made to have the desalination plant built .
According to the same source, it is “a remarkable moment”, because more than 1,100 meters of road were built in a place, where it was completely made of rock with many difficulties, but which ended up with a road with “a lot of quality”.
The road, informed the mayor, will greatly facilitate the implementation of the desalination plant and at a later stage the council will present a plan for the urbanization of the site, believing that the whole area will be built with houses and thus a new urbanized location will be born on the island of Brava .
As for the start of works on the desalination plant itself, he announced that the forecast is to start at the beginning of April, noting that the contract has already been signed with the company that will execute it.
Likewise, Francisco Tavares showed that technicians are already on the land of the supervisory company for the first phase, which is the identification of the location to make two holes to try to collect sea water through a hole, which "will be of better quality for the desalination itself and then the machines will start their work”.
The mayor informed that the contract foresees the completion of the entire work for 14 months, namely the installation of the desalination unit, as well as solar panels, noting that there will be two photovoltaic parks for the work of the desalination plant, pumping water from Forte to Santa Bárbara and from there to the reservoir at the head of Avenida, in the city of Nova Sintra.
In this regard, he took the opportunity to point out that the board of directors of Empresa Intermunicipal de Águas, Aguabrava, has already approved in its activity plan for 2023 an additional project that will pump desalinated water from Avenida head to the reservoir in Risco Vermelho, which in turn sends the water to all locations on the island, with the exception of Palhal, Ferreiros and Lomba, which have their supply network through another source.
The budget for the road, as evidenced by Francisco Tavares, was just over 61 million escudos, financed 100 percent (%) by Luxembourgish cooperation and part of the entire work of desalination and abduction of water to the reservoir at the head of Avenida it is budgeted at around 550 million escudos, which he considered “a very strong investment for the reality of Brava's economy”.
“Undoubtedly, the final result is what counts most, as it will bring enough quality water to supply the entire population of Brava, definitively solving one of Brava's three structural problems”, concluded the mayor.
