Speaking to Inforpress, Francisco Tavares informed that the work on the desalination project had a slight delay, because everything was supposed to be ready by the end of June 2023, but he assured that the infrastructure is at a faster pace and at 40 percent (%) execution.

“The materials and equipment are already in Brava and also last week they started building the water supply pipeline, which comes from the main reservoir at the head of the avenue to a new reservoir that will be built in Santa Barbara, to make the connection with the desalination unit, which is the water supply point”, he explained.

In this situation, the city council took the opportunity to inform residents that Rua da Cultura will be closed during the months of February and March, taking into account that trenches were opened to introduce larger diameter pipes and serve the supply of desalinated water in the main reservoir of Nova Sintra. .

The mayor admitted that the lack of water in Brava is “screaming” and the municipality is lacking the amount of water to supply the population, highlighting that the distribution company, Aguabrava, has made a huge effort in distributing water, even with great difficulties.

Francisco Tavares defended that the water desalination project is the solution that will guarantee that the municipality will have this liquid in sufficient quantity, day and year round, not just depending on the rain and also recognized that there will be more advantage, a since the island has underground water with excess fluoride, which is harmful to human health.

“We are very satisfied and looking forward to the start of water production through the desalination unit, which is being set up in the Forte area, close to the town of Furna, and I think that the next six months will be enough to complete the work”, expressed.

The Edil concluded by thanking the Government and its partner, in this case Luxembourg Cooperation, for financing this “great” structural and fundamental project in the development process of Brava.
