Brava: Doctor warns that the best fight against any cancer is a bet on prevention

The doctor Mercedes Blanco warned today, to a group of women, in the locality of Mato, that the best way to fight against any cancer is to bet on prevention.

Mercedes Blanco made this alert in an open conversation about breast cancer, held in that location, within the scope of the B-Bright Talk, whose target audience was a group of women from the culture circle of Mato and Braga, within the Basic Education coordination of Youth and Adults (EJA) of the school delegation of Brava.

According to the doctor, women need to be aware that "prevention costs nothing, but treatment is very costly", stressing that the key to everything is "prevention".

As for forms of prevention, the speaker pointed out healthy habits, such as avoiding alcohol and tobacco, practicing physical exercises, having a good diet, among others, reinforcing that there are other factors that must be taken into account, such as genetic factors. .

But, he also advised women to do a self-examination and to seek health services, stressing that, on Brava, the rate of demand by women for routine examinations and prevention of breast or uterine cancer is practically null and, when there are cases, they are already in a very advanced stage of the disease, which brings several other complications.

From the women's group, Arminda Veiga guaranteed that her lifestyle will change from today, mainly in terms of care and self-examination, as "this conversation was very enlightening", considering it an opportunity for all women to get information and clarify your doubts about cancer.

Likewise, Lucília Ribeiro congratulated the organization and the explanation given at this meeting, highlighting that with these meetings they have learned a lot and this lecture, in particular, came to alert them about the need to take care of themselves and not to ignore some symptoms.

“Many times in our day-to-day life we do not take the initiative in relation to the various signs that our body gives us and we do not even seek medical services”, said the same source, acknowledging that the habit is to seek support when they are already in an advanced state. , which should be avoided with regular monitoring.

For his part, Gerson Delgado, coordinator of the B-Bright Generation at Brava, explained that this activity was to be carried out in October in celebration of Pink October, but due to logistical problems it was not possible.

Hence, it was only now carried out with the aim of making women aware of the importance of preventing breast cancer and beyond.

As for B-Bright's programming on the island, he announced that on the 18th, they will be organizing an activity with the finalists' committee from Escola Secundária da Brava and those from secondary schools on the island of Santo Antão in order to create a connection between them, allowing them to share their good practices and at this meeting, taking into account the entrepreneurship week, there will be a guest to speak with them in this area with a focus on the organization of finalist activities.

Gerson Delgado said that, on Brava Island, the B-Bright Generation started work in January 2022, and that they are open to receive more people, more young people who want to engage and take the project forward.
