Brava: City Council provides 450 short stories for preparations for Carnival groups and prizes
The Brava City Council announced that it will bear some expenses for the preparations for Carnival and the awarding of prizes to the two official groups on the island, having made available 450 thousand escudos for this purpose.
The information was given to Inforpress by the president of Brava City Council, Francisco Tavares, declaring that, this year, only two official groups registered, and that the municipality has already provided an initial subsidy of 50 thousand escudos to these two groups.
“Then, the municipality has a series of other awards. The winning group will receive a prize of 140 thousand escudos and second place will receive a prize of 90 thousand escudos, prizes that are already guaranteed. There will also be prizes for the queen, king, best singer and music”, he said, adding that on the island there is a tradition of surprise groups and the three best will receive prizes.
According to the mayor, this investment is around 450 thousand escudos, to support this year's Carnival, also informing that the chamber also raised 200 thousand escudos from the Ministry of Culture.
The mayor stated that he still hopes to obtain other amounts for individual prizes.
Francisco Tavares called for community participation and involvement, in order to increase the number of elements in participating groups and so that the island's Carnival can “take a bigger leap”, gaining another dimension and dynamic.
This year, the official groups will be the carnival group from Furna, created 4 years ago, and the group from Lém, which will liven up the streets of Nova Sintra, on Tuesday, February 13th.
