Brava: ESET educational community holds silent march in honor of student Alexandra Veiga

Students, teachers and staff of Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares (ESET) paid tribute today to Alexandra Veiga, a 20-year-old student and colleague, who died of illness in the city of Praia, this Thursday, 12.

Speaking to Inforpress, the director of ESET, David Fernandes, explained that this was one of the ways that the educational community found to show its solidarity to the family members and how much the death of the 12th grade student was an “unpleasant surprise” for the entire community. This student was described by the principal and colleagues as being “very meek, well-behaved and committed”.

In addition, Pascoal Fernandes reinforced that she was a “fighting” student because for some years she had been presenting health problems, having been “transferred” several times for treatment, but she always returned and had good results in her studies.

“That was what hurt us the most because he always showed good will in fighting for his health and achieving his goals”, lamented the director.

To the family members, the director says he has no words to describe such pain and that the only thing he has to say and wish is “a lot of strength and courage”.

There were more than 300 students, accompanied by teachers and other family members, who walked through the main arteries of Vila de Nova Sintra, surrounded by a profound silence, demonstrating the pain and sadness they felt at the time.

In an environment where the majority were teenagers, all you could hear was the sound of their feet hitting the ground as they walked, not having noticed any kind of parallel conversations, which for the school board was “nothing less than a moment in which students showed solidarity with family members and loved ones and how surprised they were by the loss”.
