Brava: EMAI wants to work with ICCA in the 2019/2020 school year in the awareness process
The Multidisciplinary Team for the Support of Inclusive Education (EMAEI) intends to work with the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA) this school year to reduce the dropout rate on the part of children with special educational needs.
The Multidisciplinary Team for the Support of Inclusive Education (EMAEI) intends to work with the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA) this school year to reduce the dropout rate on the part of children with special educational needs.
The information was provided to Inforpress by the team manager, Alfredo Gomes, who explained that they have been doing awareness work together with parents and guardians, but even so, they have encountered cases of resistance and that often either takes abandonment of children, or constant absences.
“We have been doing work with the students and periodic meetings with the families, but there are some cases that we have not yet been able to raise awareness of”, said the official.
Still, for the process of raising awareness and seeking incentives for parents to keep their children in school, Alfredo Gomes said that they had worked with the city council, so that children could benefit from the social pension they are entitled to, but in some cases, even that didn't work.
“For this year, we plan to work more closely with the ICCA to try to help us raise awareness of these families, with a view to overcoming these issues”, added the same source, convinced that with this partnership the results will be better.
Asked about the plans for this school year in addition to campaigns and awareness meetings, he said that the idea is to continue with the same strategy, but first, they will try to locate the students who have already indicated which school and teachers they are in.
Because, he added, Brava has a “serious problem” which is the constant departure of teachers and sometimes a student starts with a teacher but can later be changed.
Then, they will see the PEI and readjust it in the case of students who have already finished the cycle and make sure that all students have their plans.
They also intend to see the new cases that arise, taking into account that they have been signaling since pre-school, but this year new students will enter pre-school and it is necessary to do the work at the beginning with these new children in the system.
This official appealed to appeal to parents and teachers, in order to see "what is the concern" of the Government, of the Ministry of Education.
“If we look at this year's motto “Together for quality without leaving anyone behind”, it is a strong commitment that the ministry has towards inclusive education and if we analyze it, this only benefits children and guardians”, he reinforced.
Teachers in particular are asked to do the work that the EMAEI asks, which is to implement the measures found in the report and in the IEP for each child.
