City of Nova Sintra, 29 Feb - The former residence of the Mayor of Brava, located on the main avenue of the City of Nova Sintra, has been transformed into a restaurant/bar to the astonishment of local residents and those in the diaspora.

The building located in the heart of the city of Nova Sintra, which houses the Centrum Sete Sóis Sete Luas and was once the headquarters of the Escola de Música da Ilha Brava, has been transformed into a bar/restaurant.

This information reached Bravanews through a dozen people, who said they were astonished, sad and angry, as they understood that the residence should be given another destination than this one.

Without the structure for this purpose and running the risk of accelerated degradation, the space was rented to a private person to operate a bar/restaurant, where alcoholic drinks flow freely and loud music bothers the neighbors.

Sought after, the Mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, said he was tired of commenting on faceless and ownerless denunciations and referred us to some reaction when Bravanews reveals its sources.

“These loose questions and without knowing the origin and always about seemingly negative things will only deserve answers from the Municipality of Brava when we are in a transparent dialogue”, he claims, to add that “either we know who is accusing or we do not respond to anyone”.

Several people contacted by Bravanews advanced that there are several spaces that the city council could authorize the operation of a bar, but never a public building, with a lot of memory, that has already received Presidents of the Portuguese Republic, Governments of the Province of Cape Verde, Presidents of the Republic of Independent Cape Verde, and official residence of the Mayors, José Maria Barros and Camilo Goncalves.

On the island of Brava, there are already just over fifty bars and spaces for the sale of alcoholic beverages, opening even more in a space with the memory of the former official residence, the only one on Brava, is a “mistreatment of a public good” that should deserve everyone's respect.
