The person in charge of the American foundation Marly's Miracle, who was in Cape Verde to find out about the situation of shipments sent to the islands and to make deliveries in São Vicente and Brava, ends the mission with a feeling of "duty accomplished".
Maria Pereira told Inforpress that she delivered almost a thousand toys to children in Brave, an action she called "Early Christmas", in addition to distributing carts for people with locomotor disabilities and delivering materials to children at the health station on the island.
In addition to Brava, she had the opportunity to travel to São Vicente, where she went to distribute around 200 backpacks at the Salamansa school, with school materials, hygiene products and slippers, a location that was described by the donor as being for humble people.
Another island that benefited from donations from the foundation was Santo Antão, but it did not have the opportunity to make the delivery in person, leaving this responsibility to the church of Nazareno in Ribeira Grande.
According to Maria Pereira, the feeling that she takes with her today when she leaves Brava Island is one of “gratitude and duty done”.
Because, as he explained, in nine months the foundation has managed to reach all the islands in the country, supporting them as much as possible, with school materials, toys, hospital equipment, among other materials and equipment donated to individuals.
In Brava, the head of the American foundation Marly's Miracle reached the most remote locations, such as Raíz, Fundo, Belém, Santa Bárbara, Pau, Braga and Palhal, where residents told Inforpress that it is almost "a miracle" for someone to remember themselves, especially the little children.
For the parents of these children, both in distant locations and in Vila de Nova Sintra, opinions were unanimous.
“It's a good gesture, because our community is poor and often we don't have the possibility to buy a toy to offer our children, especially in this Christmas season when all children want to have a new toy”, said Maria Antónia de Pina , mother of a benefited child.
She also added that in her locality, taking into account the “difficulty” in finding a day job, whatever coin appears, they are primarily concerned with buying basic goods such as food.
Parents thank the foundation for the smile they put on their little children's faces.
Asked about the next steps and the foundation's next mission, Maria Pereira said that she is going to the United States in anticipation of when she can return to Cape Verde, even though she has projects for the island of Fogo, where she intends to start activities next year, but it is necessary to organize itself, as it is a non-profit foundation and it is necessary to raise funds and some donations.
Maria Pereira took the opportunity to thank her field team in Cape Verde and the people, institutions, associations and everyone who supported her in the United States, because without them, “it would not be possible” to cover all these islands.
