Brava: Franciscan Sisters announce commemorative activities for the centenary of the birth of Padre Pio Gottin

Speaking to Inforpress, the Franciscan sister, Maria Catarina Carvalho, known as Sister Teca, explained that these activities will start on March 8th, in Brava, and during the year 2023 several activities will be carried out that will culminate on March 11th. 2024, in the city of Praia.
According to the nun, Padre Pio was a well-known man in Brava, but also in Cape Verde and in the United States of America, who, in addition to spiritual works, developed various social actions.
Hence, at the level of the Institute of Consecrated Franciscans of the Imaculada Conceição, as he was the founder, they decided to make the younger people aware of the history of Padre Pio Gottin, but also a way of keeping him alive in society and showing practical examples of the charitable actions.
As for the program, he announced that on the 8th of March, there will be a set of testimonies about Padre Pio, for the 9th, the presentation of a lecture on the theme of Padre Pio and the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, and on the 10th, a cultural evening is scheduled.
On Saturday, the 11th, there will be a prayer vigil and on Sunday, the 12th of March, there will be a single mass that will be celebrated in the parish of São João Baptista, followed by a convivial lunch.
Padre Pio Olívio Gottin was born on March 11, 1924, in Pozzoleone (Vicenza), in the parish of Madona di Campagna, Turin, Italy; made perpetual vows on March 19, 1945, was ordained a priest on February 1, 1948, arrived in Cape Verde on March 31, 1949, worked in the parish of São Lourenço, Fogo from 1949 to 1955, on the island of Brava from 1955 to 1979, went to the United States on March 24, 1979 where he worked until 1999 and died in the United States on November 7, 1999.
