Brava: Health Delegate considers exchanges with Portuguese doctors “positive”

Speaking to Inforpress, Hélder Pires highlighted that the four-day visit originated from a partnership between Brava City Council and the Associação Sete Sóis e Sete Luas, which, on a voluntary basis, managed to bring seven doctors specializing in General and Family Medicine(FGM ), where they served several people.

“We also had a doctor who is a neurosurgeon and treated some patients in this pathology of this specialty and it was also agreed that in the future there will be training administered to local professionals, which I consider to be a benefit”, he highlighted.

According to the same source, there was an exchange of experiences, both presenting their work methodologies, and in addition to the gains, they scheduled more exchanges, which they considered to be “positive” for the health department.

“In Brava we really lack other specialties, however, these doctors showed their willingness to bring more doctors and more specialties, in a future mission, which will be very good for the municipality”, he highlighted.

In turn, the director of the Sete Sóis e Sete Luas project, Marco Abbondanza, said that the Sete Sóis e Sete Luas festival is a slightly different and perhaps unique festival in the world, taking into account that it has the capacity to offer development opportunities to the “network” cities.

“In this case, Brava, which has been in our hearts for more than 12 years, thanks to the former President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who introduced them to the island and in this sense, the association requested and created a specific program for the municipality , together with doctors from Coimbra (Portugal), who were touched by our activities”, he reported.

In this situation, he explained that, in the same way as they do with musicians and visual artists, they also have resident doctors doing residencies, in this case, linked to health and also to study new strategies, guaranteeing improvements in the health area of the population of Braga.

“So, a first team of seven doctors came here on the island, and we have to be grateful, because they paid for their travel and waived their salaries. We have General and Family Medicine doctors, neurosurgeons and stomatologists, however, others will come according to the information we made here, to see which specialists are most needed”, he said.

This person concluded by informing that the doctors carried out several consultations in different locations, namely Furna, Nossa Senhora do Monte, the city of Nova Sintra, among others.
