In an interview with Inforpress, brandy producer António Santos said today that he now has men working on his land, cleaning the sugar cane so it can be transported to the production site.

As the same source pointed out, the industrialization period for the brandy is now open, which will last until the end of May, so he stressed that now is the time to start working to ensure good production.

“From now on, we producers have to work hard to see results, as manufacturing quality liquid requires a lot of work and cost,” he said.

Producer João Gomes said that he has not yet started harvesting sugar cane on his land, taking into account that he does not have a large quantity of cane available and, therefore, intends to start production next month.

“My production is for my own use and for my family and friends. I do not sell this liquid, so I do not need to rush production, considering that I have enough time for industrialization,” he concluded.

Decree-Law No. 11/2015 of 12 February, which regulates the production of sugar cane spirit in Cape Verde, states that the period for the sugar cane harvest and industrialization of grogue begins on 1 January and ends on 31 May.
