Brava: Local authority organizes activities and Christmas lunch for around a hundred elderly people

According to the councilor responsible for the Social Affairs and Health department of the Brava municipality, Ivone Cardoso, the meeting is scheduled at Praça de Nova Sintra, starting at 10:00.

The same source indicated that “unfortunately” the activity has not been carried out for four years, due to the covid-19 pandemic, however, it promised that this year it will be resumed and in a “better than the previous” way.

“Last October, the International Day of the Elderly was celebrated and we held a gathering in the town of Nossa Senhora do Monte, and we welcomed more than 80 elderly people, however, the gathering was splendid and everyone enjoyed it and are asking for more ”, highlighted the councilor.

In this sense, Ivone Cardoso said that the municipality wants to have more elderly people at Christmas and that if it included “people from Brava Island in general” it would be “even better”.

“We want to bring everyone to Praça Eugénio Tavares, in the city of Nova Sintra, and then we will take a walk to the high school in the Santana area to participate in the activities that will be held there. We have a full day schedule, transport is already guaranteed to all locations, starting at 9:00 am, because it is a special day for them and for socializing with colleagues”, stated Ivone Cardoso.

Activities such as physical exercises, with a physical education teacher, lectures, dances, games and lunch, among others, are also planned.

“We are counting on partners from everywhere, to carry out this activity, the Zé Luís Solidário project has already provided a sum of money, Tony Varela who also collaborated, and we have already received support from several local partners. The municipality takes this opportunity to thank everyone who is involved in this activity”, he highlighted, also stating that they are looking for more partners.
