Brava: MAA delegation warns of the need to preserve trees and forests

The delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) warned today of the need to preserve nature, especially trees and forests, as a way to celebrate the International Day of Forests and Trees.

To convey this message, the delegation organized, this Tuesday, an ecological walk and a fruit tree planting campaign, as well as awareness messages, to mark this date, this year celebrated under the motto “Forest and health”.

Amarildo Silva, technician of the MAA delegation, explained that the walk carried out today in the city of Nova Sintra – João da Noli – Fontaínhas – Cova Galinha – Paul – Nova Sintra, aimed to raise awareness of the importance of the tree and the forest .

According to the same source, “forests are vital to sustain life on earth”, in addition to being responsible for maintaining most of the earth's water resources and harboring most of the biodiversity, including fauna and flora.

In Cova Galinha, 50 fruit trees were planted, which MAA technicians will monitor.

For his part, Carlos Bango, a technician from the environmental NGO, Biflores, demonstrated his "satisfaction" with the initiative and also with people's participation, stressing that now it is necessary to work on raising people's awareness in their daily actions, as activities cannot only focus on this day, justifying that it is worthless if the actions do not meet the objective of this walk.

In other words, he reinforced that the idea is that people start to become aware and, in practice, change their attitudes.

João da Cruz, technician from the Brava Health Police Station, also welcomed this initiative, which not only aimed to raise people's awareness of the importance of preserving the forest and the tree, but also to show their importance for health .

The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, who also participated in this walk, showed that initiatives of this type are always “good”, especially when they involve society.

According to the same source, this walk allowed the participants to have a closer contact with nature, demonstrating that the island has a great biodiversity and many green areas.

But he also stressed that this ecological walk, which served to raise the awareness of the participants who will pass on the message that "it is necessary to preserve" what we have and do much more to increase Brava's potential in terms of even having forests of fruit trees, as long as work is done in that area.

In 2012, the United Nations Assembly declared this day (March 21) as the International Day of Forests, with the aim of celebrating and raising awareness of the importance of all types of forests.
