The mayor of Brava advanced today that the paving of Rua Direita could be carried out in the second half of this year, through a verbal contract he has with the Ministry of Infrastructure.

In a message sent to Inforpress, Francisco Tavares, who is off the island, responded to the concerns of users and residents of Rua Direita, who today went to the press to express their dissatisfaction with the state of the street, the only one that does not was reclassified within the requalification project of the Historic Center of the City of Nova Sintra.

The mayor informed that within the requalification program of the Historic Center of Nova Sintra this street was left to contemplate with the works, because of the price increase and additional works in Rua Padre Pio.

The mayor explained that the limit of the initially contracted budget and the addendum made with the contractor had been reached, and that in the end Rua Direita remained to be reclassified.

Meanwhile, he announced that “there is a verbal agreement” between the Ministry of Infrastructure and the City Council of Brava for the Government to finance a project for the paving of Rua Direita in its entirety during 2023.

“The contract has not yet been signed, but the municipality is confident that it will be signed in the first half, and in the second half, paving will be done on Rua Direita and on two other routes to complete the total requalification of the Historic Center”, concluded the mayor.

The requalification works of the Historic Center of Nova Sintra, which started at the end of September 2020, initially budgeted at more than 27 million escudos and financed under the Rehabilitation, Requalification and Accessibility Program (PRRA), were inaugurated in September 2022 and aimed to reclassify the streets of the city of Nova Sintra.
