Brava: Mayor clarifies government employment policy after young man sells motorcycle assigned to start business
A councilor from the Municipality of Brava clarified today, in a press conference, the Government's policy on encouraging and creating jobs, after a young man sold the motorcycle assigned as business kits.
Mário Soares, councilor responsible for Education, Training and Youth at the Brava City Council, reacted to the situation of selling a motorcycle that was delivered by the Government to the young David Garcia, who, about fifteen days later, sold the motorcycle.
Faced with this situation, Mário Soares explained that the allocation of kits is a Government policy with the aim of encouraging young people to create their jobs and income, a process that takes place in all municipalities in the country, through “a very clear policy ”.
According to the mayor, it is the beneficiary himself who chooses the materials for his business, since the material is delivered and not the cash value.
According to this official, this process is “governed by legislation” and the delivery is made through a proforma invoice presented by the beneficiary himself.
The kits, as specified by the councilor, are intended to “fight social inequalities and promote employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship” and the beneficiaries themselves choose what suits them, according to the business they intend to open.
In this sequence, he explained that the young David Garcia was the beneficiary of the kit, whose choice was decided by himself. The mayor clarified that at first the young man presented an invoice worth 153 thousand escudos, then asked to change to a vehicle with five batteries, presenting a new invoice worth 160 thousand escudos, justifying that from the beginning he was the one chose what he wanted.
In this process, taking into account the interest and commitment of the young man in acquiring this means that would be a vehicle to facilitate his work, the sale of fish, Mário Soares showed that in addition to government entities, the city council, several people were also involved who wanted to see this young man's dream come true and which was seen as a way of encouraging other young people to embark on the path of self-employment.
About the vehicle, this official explained that, on the day of his arrival from the city of Praia, on the Furna - Vila de Nova Sintra route, the young man complained of some difficulty, but later, in contact with other people who already had some experience with such a vehicle, he saw that it was a lever that was in the opposite direction.
“He did his test, informing the city council team that he was doing well, he went to Braga, an area that has a road with a certain inclination, and to Lomba Tantum, where he lives, stressing that, even slowly, the vehicle was developing on the way up”, said the councilor, stressing that even before the arrival of the vehicle the young man himself guaranteed that the fish would be transported in a normal car to the Escovinha area and that it would then be placed in the vehicle in question for for sale.
However, he said that afterwards the beneficiary showed interest in putting an engine in the vehicle, having been told that the engine would cost around 65 thousand escudos.
But on the 27th, he received a call from people realizing that this young man had sold the motorcycle he had been offered, and when contacting him, he denied saying that he had sent it to Fogo Island to install an engine.
Mário Soares says he regrets this situation, as the young man could get in touch with the team, because, he underlined, the chamber and the Government have always shown every interest in supporting him and satisfying what was best for him.
Reminding that the “assignment of government kits is governed by legislation”, the councilor recalled that right after the delivery of the kit, the young man attended the opening of the PIN training where the director of the Center for Employment and Professional Training (CEFP) in the region of Fogo and Brava, Carlos Lopes, said that none of the beneficiaries of kits can dispose of them because they will have a consultant to follow up.
In terms of the contract, taking into account that there will be new beneficiaries of kits, the young people who took the PIN training together with David Garcia, the contract was left to be made with the others.
The councilor also informed that the CEFP director himself contacted the young man in order to return the amount.
He also informed that the motorcycle is in the possession of the buyer, but the CEFP will carry out the survey and the motorcycle will remain in Fogo, to then see the next step to be taken, since the young man has already publicly mentioned that he is not interested in the motorcycle. because it doesn't satisfy you.
The press tried to contact the young man via telephone and he says he has nothing to say about the matter.
