Brava: Mayor considers PAICV unprepared to manage the city council
The president of Brava City Council considers that the Regional Political Commission of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) is not prepared to “even” understand the economic-financial management of the municipality or manage the municipality.
Francisco Tavares was reacting to the accusations made, on January 18th, by PAICV (opposition), in statements to Inforpress, where they accuse the municipality of “harmful” management and of intending to extend the municipality's loan.
According to the mayor, the opposition could have all the clarifications before reporting “falsehoods” in the press. “With these false accusations, PAICV is showing that they are not at all prepared to manage Brava City Council”, he highlighted.
As he explained, these loans are all made based on the study that shows that the city council has the capacity to assume its operating responsibilities and pay its creditors, which, according to him, is what the municipal debt map says, since the year 2023.
“The map of municipal debt from the previous year shows that the Brava City Council still had a margin of almost 53 thousand contos, to take out a loan in the previous year. Considering that in 2024 the Municipal Financing Fund will increase by almost 950 contos per month and this shows that the municipality is calm about taking on a debt of over 50 thousand contos, for investment in new projects”, highlighted the mayor.
Francisco Tavares highlighted that the city council presented 12 new projects, among others already existing ones, for approval by the municipal assembly, which, however, according to the PAICV, did not approve any and voted against all the proposals unanimously.
“They are against interventions in multipurpose facilities, acquisition of land for a football field, against the loan for works on the municipal auditorium and financing of some income-generating activities, among other projects”, he stated.
This official considered that this attitude of voting against is part of PAICV's political option, highlighting that the population of Brava is attentive to, at the right time, provide a suitable response.
In this sense, he highlighted that it is up to the municipality and, based on credible documents, to show that it has every possibility of taking out a loan and continuing to honor its commitments.
“Anyone who is not prepared to at least understand this management should not even apply, taking into account that they are not prepared to manage a municipality like Ilha Brava”, he stressed, ensuring that all the accusations are “totally false”. of the opposition.
