In an interview with Inforpress, the team leader, Alfredo Gomes, explained that this is the second year of the signage, and that the team's work continues with the actions of the previous year.
According to the person in charge, in the previous year, between assessments and reassessments, there were 29 cases, but there were cases of abandonment, emigration, death and some who completed the 12th year, who left the list of flagged students.
With that, this year, he pointed out that they started with 16 cases of students with permanent special educational needs.
Meanwhile, it advanced to be in possession of information of some students who are already in the system who need to be signaled, and for that they are working together with the teachers, in the sense that they get to know the students, fill in the signaling form in a way correct, which will allow EMAEI to elaborate a more detailed work.
But, he informed that at the moment they are prioritizing the evaluation of the implementation of the Individual Educational Plans (PEI's), which were made last year, and the reformulation of the plans for the children who changed cycle.
Furthermore, he stressed that they have been working with parents and guardians, in order to sensitize them to send their children to school, as they had some problems at the beginning of the school year, but that with home visits and meetings personalized, these situations have already been overcome.
On the needs of the team on the island, the person in charge listed that the greatest need is the training of teachers in pedagogical differentiation, because, he added, every year there are new teachers and they do not have the part of special education.
Therefore, the team is organizing to train the teachers who are working with these children and in the second quarter a team from the city of Praia will come with the same commitment.
Asked about the largest number of cases and the respective disabilities, Alfredo Gomes informed that they work with almost all types of disability, from cases of blindness, physical disability, deafness, but that the most common is related to intellectual disability, that is, the cognitive problems, mental retardation, hyperactivity and attention deficit.
