João Coelho, municipal deputy of the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV – opposition) today expressed his dissatisfaction with the professionalization of three councilors of the Brava City Council.

Speaking to Inforpress, the municipal deputy stressed that on the 11th of December he had already expressed his point of view before the Municipal Assembly, which was meeting in its second ordinary session, where the deliberation for the professionalization of the three councilors and another half-time.

According to this deputy, “despite being touched on in the plan of activities that, even in times of a pandemic, with consequences that are still unpredictable at an economic level, the city council had the courage to make a proposal for the professionalization of three full-time councilors , with a monthly expenditure of PTE 421,600, and PTE 5,059,200 per year, representing an increase of PTE 1,468,800”, pointed out João Coelho.

For the same source, this situation is “really inhumane”, on an island where the unemployment rate, he pointed out “is very high and many people have no way to put the pan on the fire, or live in very precarious conditions”.

João Coelho considered this proposal “indecent”, comparing it to a “true assault on the pockets of the people of Brave”.

The deputy stressed that this is something “unprecedented”, noting that, “for the first time in the history of municipal management, there are three professional councilors with exorbitant costs, even more within the context in which they are living and without knowing what is to come”. come over".

“With expenditures of 1,468,800$00 more than the 2020 budget with the councilor's office, we would have 10 heads of families employed with minimum wage”, said the deputy.
