Vivo Energy Cabo Verde, a company that markets Shell branded products and services in Cape Verde, clarified today that the occasional butane gas shortage on the island is due to the “insufficient” tares for filling.
In reaction to the news published on Wednesday, 28th, by Inforpress, in which Shell's agent in Brava confirmed the stockout of butane gas and diesel to supply the power plant, Vivo Energy Cabo Verde guaranteed that the stockout will not due to lack of product.
The company guaranteed that “there is no risk of gas rupture in the country and that it has the capacity to supply all the islands for several months” and that it is “making efforts” to replenish the stock of gas bottles for purchase on Brava .
“The hoarding of bottles that has been happening all over the country since the confinement period, due to the covid-19 pandemic, has given rise to this type of situation, leading to a punctual rupture on the island of Brava”, explained the same source. .
Hence, he stressed, a campaign was launched to collect empty containers, of no use to the consumer, with the aim of avoiding stock outages, but which “unfortunately has had little effect” on the population, which “continues to choose to accumulate bottles empty at home”.
And it is in this sense that Vivo Energy Cabo Verde once again appeals to the population to “avoid the practice of hoarding gas bottles and the accumulation of empty bottles”, in order to “eliminate the risk of worsening the situation and even for reasons of security".
Regarding the issue of fuel disruption to the power plant, Vivo Energy Cabo Verde guaranteed that “there is no risk of disruption and/or constraint in the supply of fuel on the island”.
