Speaking to Inforpress, Francisco da Lomba, a 15-year-old member of the organization “running the boat of this party”, said he was satisfied with the culmination of the activities today, noting that since the beginning of July, sports, recreational activities , cultural events that took place normally, but that the traditional part was also fulfilled to the letter.

This party, he said, is now 63 years old and is one of the oldest members of the organization, made up of people of all stripes, as it is to be maintained, taking into account that it portrays the experience of the man from Brave and the Cape Verdean people. verdian itself.

As he said, the celebration is nothing more, nothing less than portraying the life of emigration, of people who leave because they have to leave, of those who stay and the prevailing feeling within these families

And, to make this trip, there is a stone boat in the bay of Furna where the captain makes trips to different ports and the passengers are people from the locality and from other areas who wish to board, noting that this year the ship left the Caribbean for island of São Vicente, in Cape Verde, and then returned to the Caribbean port, but which has already gone around the world, each year with one or more different destinations, depending on the trips that passengers request.

Francisco da Lomba pointed out that the day begins with the Eucharistic celebration, followed by activities on the boat, lunch and the traditional parade, “like the tabanca one”, but “a parade of drums and coladeiras”.

On this day, he highlighted that they receive “colladeiras from almost all locations on the island of Brava”, stressing that “each area has its style and rhythm of toca and colá”.

This year the organization honored Zinha Oliveira, an active member of the organization of this party and for fifteen consecutive years had been celebrating the flag, but who died about two years ago.

As for this honor, Ludgero Oliveira, son of the honoree, revealed “satisfaction” with the recognition of his mother, pledging to also continue to be part of the organization so as not to let this tradition die, as it was a legacy passed down from generation to generation within of the family and to do justice to the efforts of the mother intends to continue.

Hundreds of people gathered on the pedestrian street in the town of Furna where all the activities related to this festival are taking place and the trophies are being handed over to the teams that participated in the sporting activities, as well as tributes and recognition prizes.
