Speaking to Inforpress, the obstetric nurse responsible for the Mother and Child Program/Family Planning (PMI/PF) sector explained that this screening is being promoted by the Cape Verdean Association of Fight Against Cancer (ACLCC), in partnership with the Police de Saúde da Brava, which begins today at around 2:30 pm in the town of Furna.

The aim is to screen for cervical and breast cancer in women aged between 25 and 64 years, and for prostate cancer in men aged between 40 and 74 years.

According to the same source, today they will work from 2:30 pm, in Furna, but tomorrow, the 30th, they will work all day in Nova Sintra, at the health station, to assist people from all locations on the island. .

Asked about the objective of the campaign, she recalled that in 2019 the ACLCC had already carried out such an action and the intention is to carry out screening to analyze the situation in relation to these types of cancer, taking into account that Brava did not have the resources that allow patients to have a 'check-up' regularly.

As for the results, he informed that these will be sent to the police station to be delivered to the patients and, in the case of exams that present some anomaly, the patients are referred to specialist consultations so that they can have the proper follow-up.

Regarding the exams, this person in charge informed that they will be done through palpation, cytology, touch and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).
