Brava: “Paul and Peter call Christians to be living stones of the church in a different, but Christ-centered way”

Friar José Garcia highlighted today at the solemnity mass of São Paulo and São Pedro that they call all Christians to be living stones of the church in a different way, but centered on Christ.
According to the priest, these two different figures are called “columns of the church” and that even though they are different in their ways of thinking, seeing life and even living their own faith, they show Christians that even with a different vision they managed to make the voice of the Gospel resound throughout the whole world.
“The only thing that they have in common is the figure of Christ, because they all believed and both tried to announce it to the world”, highlighted the priest.
Friar José stressed that the life of these two columns of the church “gives us an image of Christ” and for the church he emphasized that these two release the reigning idea that as Christians we all have to be equal.
“If we were all the same, Christianity would be dead, and in this solemnity he tells us that faith itself is lived in accordance with Christ, but expressed in several different ways”, said the religious, stressing that the central point is Jesus Christ and life follow in the footsteps of Christ, but always bearing in mind the concrete reality that lies ahead of each one.
This priest considered that “they are two Popular Saints, loved by so many people, maybe Pedro a little more than Paulo, he doesn’t know why”, but he underlined that the church puts them together to show Christians that they are inseparable in their way of life to face, live the faith and confront it.
And it is when they are together that Christians realize that without Paul, Peter did not realize that it was necessary to announce the Gospel to pagans outside Israel, and that it was Paul's challenge that gave birth to the church.
“Two Popular Saints who transmit a faith that is not popular, or that will follow fashion, but a faith rooted in Christ, and perhaps that is what makes them popular”, concluded the priest.
