Brava's preschool coordinator, Fernanda Burgo, said today that the first challenge that preschool monitors face is learning to deal with the differences of children.

Fernanda Burgo made these statements to Inforpress, in light of the first day of the pre-school held on the island last weekend, where she explained that they gathered in Fajã d´Água, with the aim of interacting with each other, in a exchange of experience, training and approximation between the monitors.

On this day, according to the coordinator, they focused on the composite classes, taking into account that in some locations there is only one monitor working and, automatically, she has to work with four and five year olds and in some cases with three year olds .

She recognizes that working with mixed classes is not easy, but she added that it is often the most viable solution, especially in locations where the number of children is small.

And, he added that it is a challenge, that if it is faced with a lot of good will, the obstacles are overcome.

Despite the groups being composed, the new monitors also had space to learn some techniques with the older ones, to prepare some teaching materials necessary for the classrooms, there was even a sharing of some information about the physical and coordination activities to be worked with the children, according to the same source.

Asked about the challenges of kindergarten monitors and those who will work with mixed classes, Fernanda Burgo said that first, they must know how to deal with differences, as each child is different and each one has their specialties and limitations.

Hence, it is necessary for the monitors to know and be prepared for this, as a way of working towards inclusion and giving the same opportunities to all children.

In composite classes, he revealed that the secret is to make them work at the same time so as not to distract each other, even differentiating activities taking into account age.

In terms of the number of students, he added that there is still no concrete number, taking into account that some have not yet enrolled.

But, she is convinced that even though every year the tendency has been to reduce the number of children in pre-school, there are around 300 or so students.

In terms of human resources, he stressed that they are already prepared to work. But in terms of physical spaces, he commented that it is the competence and responsibility of the city council, and there are some gardens that are showing some anomalies, mainly Furna, which, according to it, needs “urgent interventions”.

He also asks for greater involvement of parents and guardians in order to be and participate more in their children's lives, providing some comfort and security to children, especially in small concerts, which, in his view, often does not justify resorting to the camera.

This first journey, according to Fernanda Burgo, was positively evaluated by the entire team and the focus is on carrying out several others so that they can work “more united and in an increasingly consistent network”.
