Brava: President of Civil Protection and Firefighters assesses damage caused by recent earthquakes
The president of the National Civil Protection and Fire Service (SNPCB), Domingos Tavares, is visiting Brava Island to check the damage caused by the latest earthquakes, which he did not specify.
Speaking to Inforpress, Domingos Tavares said that “the most important thing” about the visit is to raise awareness among the population about this phenomenon that has been happening and to convey “a little comfort and tranquility”, also showing them that the national authorities have been following this case.
“The national authorities have been monitoring this case in an aware and calm manner, however, depending on the evolution, they will always take action”, he guaranteed.
According to the same source, it is “very important” to teach people some preventive measures, which is already being done by the person responsible for Civil Protection Fogo/Brava, however, he still said he believes that this phenomenon will normalize.
Hence, he added, the state of contingency decreed by the Government on November 22nd, firstly, is intended to ensure that the National Civil Protection Service creates conditions to be “prepared”, in case the situation worsens even further.
“If the situation worsens in the future, we must be minimally prepared to respond, but we believe that this will not happen. The state of contingency that has already been declared is merely a matter of prevention”, confirmed the same source.
Domingos Tavares also highlighted that, apparently, the awareness message “has been passing”, because, according to him, the population has been “more calm” in recent weeks, concludes Inforpress
