Speaking to the media, Francisco Tavares guaranteed that with this Government decision, the municipality will have access to financing and will respond more quickly to the damage caused by the recent rains.

According to the mayor, since the beginning of the damage caused by the rain flood, the Government requested from the council a report on the damage and also budgets for the municipal roads that were damaged.

However, he also highlighted that in relation to the national access road to the town of Fajã d'Água, reports and budgets are the responsibility of Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV).

In this situation, it says that the municipality of Brava will receive 35 thousand contos, but 25 thousand is “clearly” to make a “strong and necessary” investment in the road from Figueira Grande to Fajã d'Água where there was more damage.

“Brava City Council will receive around 10 thousand contos to act mainly in situations of reconstruction of walls and paving on municipal roads”, he said.

According to the same source, the municipality will prioritize the most affected areas, namely the town of Ponta Baixo, Ribeira da Furna, Pé da Rocha, the access road to the Baleia community, among others.

Francisco Tavares also highlighted that the Emergency Fund that will be made available to the Brava City Council is “less” than the total damage, but that, however, the Government is making around seventy-five percent available for intervention on the roads and municipal paths.

“We are grateful for this quick response from the Government and we are waiting for the funds to enter the municipal coffers at any time so that we can begin work”, he concluded.
