Brava: Priest asks Christians to be less consumerist and hoarders in this time of Lent

Friar Bernardino Lima today asked the faithful Christians of Brava Island to be less consumerist and hoarders in this time of Lent, in order to share a little of what they have and are with others.

The priest made this appeal in an interview with Inforpress, after the celebration of the Ash Mass, which marks the beginning of Lent.

"We are living in a world of consumerism, where various needs are being created and there are not enough means to satisfy all these needs that today's world imposes", maintained this religious, who defends the need to share more with others, not only on a material level, but also on what each one is.

And, he highlighted that the time of Lent is a “time of preparation” to celebrate the “great mystery of redemption and salvation” that Jesus Christ has for all humanity, for which, he advocated, it is necessary to understand that the existence and passage of people in this world it also has a meaning and that everyone has a goal which is Jesus Christ himself.

Therefore, he argued that the time of Lent is a time for everyone to prepare and be more attentive, more careful about Christian, personal, community, family life, especially in today's very troubled and problematic world that we are living.

Friar Bernardino says he believes that this is a favorable time for Christians to meditate, reflect, above all through the teachings of Jesus Christ who gave three fundamental vitamins, namely almsgiving, prayer and fasting to help Christians strengthen in faith, hope and love.

These “vitamins”, as he explained, help Christians to live with more enthusiasm and zeal, in building a world with justice, peace and love, so that the kingdom of God becomes present in each one.

In fact, he underlined that Lent is each one, in the sense that Jesus needs each one as an instrument to carry out this great project of liberation and salvation of humanity.

At the level of parishes in Brave, São João Baptista and Nossa Senhora do Monte, in order to live Lent in a better way, he informed that they will meet with the leaders of the parish groups in order to involve children, young people and adults through preparation, training, I withdraw confessions and everything that the church proposes to live the faith with more strength and courage.
