Brava: PAICV Regional Political Commission calls for an emergency plan to prevent disasters

Speaking to Inforpress, following the last meeting to assess the social situation resulting from the recent rains, the president of the CPR of PAICV in Brava, Carlinhos Martins, highlighted that once the “critical points” and the affected populations were identified, the public authorities it must be impartial and not distinguish between people according to their party color.

“It is extremely important that, in the future, licenses for construction in valleys and rivers are granted more carefully, in order to guarantee greater safety for the population, a fact that has been evident with the recent damage caused by the rains”, he stated.

This leader of the main opposition party drew the attention of the Brava City Council for “not having adequate instruments” to restore pedestrian paths and roads to normal and assist owners.

“In fact, there were a “Bullózer” and a “Dampa” backhoe loader in the municipality, but they were sold, despite successive warnings from the population. Now, it turns out that they are in fact seriously lacking, which justifies their being acquired again, demonstrating a lack of governance vision”, he criticized.

Carlinhos Martins also asked the authorities, namely the city council, the Government and the Roads Institute, to pay attention to the access road to Fajã d´Água, in order to find a “faster” alternative, reinforcing that the mere opening is not enough of a shortcut, which has been successively damaged by the rains.

To conclude, the head of PAICV in Brava argued that the population needs more attention from local and central governments.
